A God Who's Near, False Peace, and The New Birth

The following are quotes from three prominent Christian authors and
preachers, courtesy of Effectual Grace Blog, by John Samson.

                                                               *********

"We never need shout across the spaces to an absent God.  He is nearer than
our own soul, closer than our own most secret thoughts."
                                                                              A. W. Tozer (1897-1963)
Pastor, Author (Pursuit of God), and Magazine Editor

"The LORD is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth."
                                                                               Psalm 145:18

                                                            **********

"The writer has met many people who profess to be Christians, but whose
daily lives differ in nothing from thousands of non-professors all around them.
They are rarely, if ever, found at the prayer-meeting, they have no Family Wor-
ship, they seldom read the Scriptures, they will not talk with you about the things
of God, their walk is thoroughly worldly, and yet they are quite sure they are
     bound for heaven!

"Inquire into the ground of their confidence, and they will tell you that so
many years ago they accepted Christ as their Savior, and "once saved, always
saved" is now their comfort.  There are thousands of such people on earth today,
who are nevertheless on the Broad Road, that leads to destruction, treading it
with a false peace in their hearts and a vain profession on their lips."
                                                                                A. W. Pink (1886-1952)
Author (Sovereignty of God), Pastor, and Bible Scholar

"But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is
worthless and near to being cursed, and
its end is to be burned."
                                                                         Hebrews 6:8

                                                              **********

"To be born again is to enter into a new existence, to have a new mind, a new
heart, new views, new principles, new tastes, new affections, new likings, new
dislikings, new fears, new joys, new sorrows, new love to things once hated, new
hatred to things once loved, new thoughts of God, ourselves, the world, the  life to
     come and salvation."
                                                                               J.C. Ryle (1816-1900)
                                                                Pastor, Author, and Evangelical Preacher

"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
Old things have passed away;  behold, all
                                      things have become new."
                                                                               2 Corinthians 5:17
