God's Promise of Eternal Life
"When God writes our name in the 'Lamb's Book of Life,'
He doesn't do it with an eraser handy. He does it for eternity."
R.C. Sproul
**********
From the beginning, God wrote His children's names in the "Lamb's Book of
Life," signifying that they were His for eternity, and they would live with Him
forever.
"He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white.
I will never blot his name from the book of life, but I
will acknowledge his name before my Father and His
angels."
Revelation 3:5
An 'overcomer' is a Christian, one who has 'overcome' the world.
"For everyone who has been born of God
overcomes the world. And this is the victory
that has overcome the world -- our faith.
Who is it that overcomes the world except the
one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"
1 John 5:4-5
"A divine journal records the names of all those whom God has
chosen to save and who, therefore, are to possess eternal life.
Under no circumstances will He erase those names, as city
officials often did of undesirable people on their rolls."
John MacArthur
The lost will eventually worship the Antichrist, but the redeemed will be safe
from his power.
"... and all who dwell on earth will worship it (Antichrist),
everyone whose name has not been written before the
foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb
who was slain."
Revelation 13:8
"According to God's eternal, electing purpose before creation,
the death of Christ seals the redemption of the elect forever
(Acts 2:23; 4:27-28). Antichrist can never take away the sal-
vation of the elect. The eternal registry of the elect will never
be altered, nor will the saved in the Antichrist's day worship him.
The Lord Jesus who died to purchase the salvation of those whom
God had chosen was fulfilling an eternal plan."
John MacArthur
Only the children of God have their names written in the 'Lamb's Book of Life,'
and will spend eternity in heaven with God.
"But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor
anyone who does what is detestable or false,
but only those who are written in the Lamb's
book of life."
Revelation 21:27
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of salvation and eternal life for the believer.
"In Him (Jesus) you also when you heard the word
of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed
in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we
acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory."
Ephesians 1:13-14
Jesus said that we should rejoice if our names are written in heaven.
"Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits
are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are
written in heaven."
Luke 10:20
God has promised eternal life to those who believe in His Son.
[Jesus said], "Truly, truly, I say to you whoever
hears my word and believes him who sent me
has eternal life. He does not come into judg-
ment, but has passed from death to life."
John 5:24
"And this is the promise that He made to us --
eternal life."
1 John 2:25
