The Purpose of God's Revelation
"The purpose of God's revelation,
according to Scripture, is precisely
that human beings may know God
and so receive eternal life."
Herman Bavinck
Reformed Dogmatics Volume 2:
God and Creation
**********
Eternal life is found only in Jesus Christ, who is revealed in the Gospel!
"[Jesus prayed], 'Now this is eternal life:
that they may know you, the only true
God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
John 17:3
Many of Jesus' miracles were recorded as evidence that He was the Son of God.
Anyone who believes in Him has eternal life.
"But these are written that you may
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God, and that by believing
you may have life in His name."
John 20:31
Jesus had to be lifted up on the cross to pay for the sins of those who would
believe in Him, according to God's plan.
"Just as Moses lifted up the snake in
the desert, so the Son of Man must
be lifted up, so that everyone who
believes in Him may have eternal life."
John 3:14-15
Jesus promised that anyone who hears the Word of God, and believes in Him,
will have eternal life.
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears
my word and believes Him who
sent me has eternal life and will
not be condemned; he has crossed
over from death to life."
John 5:24
The Father's will is that everyone who believes in His Son shall have
eternal life. Though he dies, he will live again.
"[Jesus said], 'For my Father's will
is that everyone who looks to the
Son and believes in Him shall have
eternal life, and I will raise him up
at the last day."
John 6:40
Those who remain in their sin, will not have eternal life with God,
but will be separated from Him, in hell.
Eternal life with Him, is a gift from God, to those who believe in the Son.
"For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 6:23
